Versailles tickets explained: the Passport and the rest

In 2026 there is one way into the Palace of Versailles: the Passport. Everything else, from the Trianon ticket to the tours from Paris, is built around it or sits beside it.

Older guides still print a cheaper Palace-only ticket. It no longer exists. The château's 2026 ticketing page says the Passport is “the only ticket which includes a tour of the Palace with a fixed time slot”. So the real question is not which Palace ticket to buy, but whether you want the Passport on its own or a tour that adds a guide, transport or the fountains.

This guide sets out the Passport prices by season and time of day, the Trianon ticket and its combination with the Musical Gardens, the free admission rules and where they stop, the Paris Museum Pass, refunds, buying on site, and what each GetYourGuide product adds. For the gardens alone, read the gardens tickets guide.

The quick answer

The Passport is the only Palace ticket in 2026: €35 in the high season (EEA €32) and €25 in the low season (EEA €22), with a cheaper late Passport. It includes the Palace with a timed entry, the Estate of Trianon, temporary exhibitions and the gardens, show days too. The Trianon alone costs €15. Official tickets are non-refundable. Free admission for under-18s covers the Palace and the Trianon, not the gardens on show days.

What is the best ticket to buy for Versailles?

For most visitors, the Passport: it is the only ticket with the Palace, and it includes the Trianon and the gardens, show days too.

Buy the Passport on its own if you are happy to find your own way from Paris and visit without a guide. Add a tour when you want something the Passport does not give you: a guide inside the Palace, transport from Paris, or a planned route around the fountains. The guided tour with a Passport is the closest to both worlds: a guide for the Palace, then the whole Passport for the rest of the day.

Is there a Palace-only ticket in 2026?

No. Every Palace visit in 2026 is a Passport or a tour that holds one.

If a website still quotes a separate Palace ticket, it is out of date. The 2026 ticketing page is explicit: the Passport is the only ticket with a tour of the Palace on a fixed time slot. That also means you cannot save money by skipping the Trianon or the gardens: they come with it.

The Palace itself is worth the time slot: the court moved to Versailles in 1682, the palace holds about 2,300 rooms, and the Hall of Mirrors, built from 1678 to 1681, is where the Treaty of Versailles was signed in June 1919. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979.

How much is the Versailles Passport in 2026?

€35 in the high season and €25 in the low season, €3 less for EEA nationals and residents. A late Passport costs less.

The high season runs from 1 April to 31 October, the low season from 1 November to 31 March. The late Passport is a good deal if you only want the Palace and arrive in the afternoon: in the high season the Palace's last admission is 17:45.

Does the Versailles palace ticket include gardens?

Yes. The Passport, the only ticket with the Palace, includes the gardens, on Musical Fountains Show and Musical Gardens days too.

On a show day the gardens on their own cost €15, so the Passport covers them at no extra cost. The official page describes show-day gardens access as a single admission, with a second entry possible through a different gate. On days without a show the gardens are free to everyone anyway, Passport or not.

Tours are a different matter. A tour that resells or includes a Passport carries the gardens with it; a guided tour that only buys a Palace time slot for you may not. Check each listing's wording, as the table at the end of this guide shows.

Is there a ticket for the Trianon only?

Yes: the Estate of Trianon ticket, €15 (EEA €12) all year, or €20 (EEA €17) combined with the Musical Gardens.

It covers the Grand Trianon, the Petit Trianon, their gardens, the Queen's Hamlet from noon and temporary exhibitions. The Trianon opens at 12:00 and is closed on Mondays. The combination with the Musical Gardens is useful on a weekday from April to October, when the gardens are paid. Marie Antoinette's estate has its own guide.

Who gets into Versailles free?

All visitors under 18, EEA nationals or residents under 26, and a few other groups, but only for the Palace and the Trianon, not the gardens on show days.

The official wording: free admission “only applies to the Palace and the Estate of Trianon (excluding access to the Musical Gardens and Musical Fountain Show in the high season)”. The groups are visitors under 18, EEA nationals or residents under 26, ICOM and carte Culture holders, and minimum-income recipients. On show days only children under 6 go into the gardens free; the others pay the reduced €12, or take the reduced €12 Passport, which also gives priority access to the Palace.

Paris Museum Pass holders “must obtain a free Passport ticket”. The pass is only worth buying if you will see several Paris museums: the Paris Museum Pass is rated 4.2 on GetYourGuide, lower than the Versailles tours here, and the Louvre still needs a time slot booked separately.

Should you buy Versailles tickets on site or book ahead?

You can buy every ticket on site, but only the Palace needs a time slot, so book that ahead if your day is fixed.

The official FAQ says you can buy all the tickets on site, at the Palace ticket office in the South Ministers' Wing. The other areas, the Trianon and the gardens, are freely accessible during the day once you hold the right ticket. On the busiest days, Tuesdays and weekends, the château advises arriving at the Palace when it opens at 9:00.

  • Refunds: tickets bought from the château are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
  • On GetYourGuide: the Passport resale is non-refundable too; most tours have free cancellation up to 24 hours, the minibus tour up to 3 days.
  • Bags: large bags and suitcases are prohibited.

What does each GetYourGuide product add to the Passport?

A guide, transport from Paris, the fountains, or a way to cover more ground. The table shows each in its own words.
